Marble and Quartz Countertop FAQʼs:

How long does it take to get my kitchen countertops converted to granite or quartz countertops?

In most cases it take more time to choose a type of stone than it does for our technicians to estimate, template, fabricate and install your countertop.

Once the specific stone product is chosen a technician will come to your house, measure the site and provide an estimate of price. Within a few days another member of our staff will visit your home and draw up your designs. The countertop is then fabricated and installed. Based on the complexity of your design the entire process will take between 10 days and 3 weeks.

Are marble countertops more durable than granite countertops?

Marble is a metamorphic rock formed by exposing a base material, in this case limestone, to extreme heat and/or pressure within the earthʼs crust. The resulting material is very beautiful and durable. It is also quite porous. This makes it relatively susceptible to damage by acids, heat and water. Even if treated with a sealant marble cannot withstand much abuse from acidic liquids, such as citric juices, or high heat from pots and pans. It is best suited for uses in lower traffic areas.

Granite is an igneous rock formed by the cooling and solidification of lava, both above and below the earthʼs surface. Like marble granite is very durable and provides a beautiful rich look. However, granite is harder and less porous than marble making it less susceptible to damage when used in demanding applications, such as countertops and flooring. With a proper waterproof polyurethane coating, and proper care, granite will last for many years without showing signs of wear. Granite is also more affordable and more readily available in North America.

How does quartz compare to granite?

Quartz occurs in large quantities around the world. It is a very hard and durable substance, even in its raw form. Diamond, sapphire and topaz are the only minerals that are more scratch resistant than quartz. Typical quartz countertops are a blend of approximately 93% quartz and 7% other minerals. This composition makes them very durable. Quartz is also less porous than granite making it difficult for food particles or liquids to adhere to the countertop -cleaning is much easier. The downside? Quartz is more expensive than granite.
